Your State Probably Has an AI Law Already
While federal AI legislation moves at the speed of Congress, states have been busy. If you operate in the US, there's a good chance an AI law already applies to you, and you haven't heard of it.
The state laws cluster around a few themes. Disclosure: telling people when they're interacting with AI rather than a human. Consequential decisions: extra care when AI influences hiring, lending, housing, or education. Synthetic media: rules against deceptive deepfakes, especially around elections and fraud. And data: limits on what AI systems can collect and keep.
You don't need to memorize fifty states' statutes. You need the pattern: disclose AI use, take extra care with high-stakes decisions, and don't deceive people. Build those habits and you'll be speaking the same language as the state laws.
