Tell People When They're Talking to AI

Of all the AI rules emerging across the states, disclosure is the simplest: if someone is interacting with your AI, tell them. Utah put this into law for consumer interactions — when a chatbot is handling the conversation, the customer should know it's a chatbot.

I love this rule because it's also good marketing, and I say that as someone who loves marketing. Trust is the product. A customer who learns they were talking to AI feels tricked; a customer who was told upfront feels respected. The compliant move and the smart business move are the same move.

And do it in the customer's language, not yours. "Powered by advanced neural interfaces" tells nobody anything. "You're chatting with our AI assistant" tells them everything. One sentence, in plain sight. Clarity is the whole point of disclosure.
