Teach the Why Before the How

A teacher trick I still use everywhere: teach the why before the how.

When I taught, I never opened with the procedure. I opened with the reason the thing mattered. Students who understood why we were learning something tolerated the boring steps. Students who only got steps memorized them just long enough for the test.

AI training at small businesses usually does it backwards. Someone screenshares, clicks through menus, and shows which buttons to press. The team nods, goes back to their desks, and never opens the tool again — because nobody told them why it deserved space in their day.

Try this instead. Before you show a single button, show one before-and-after. "Here's what invoicing Friday looked like. Here's what it looks like now — home by five." Let them feel the why. Then the how takes ten minutes, because motivated people learn fast.

People don't adopt tools. They adopt outcomes. Teach the outcome first, and the clicks take care of themselves.
