Start Small, Collect Less: Data Advice for Small Businesses
Small businesses don't need big-data habits. They need small-data discipline.
You don't need a data lake. You need to know what you collect, why you collect it, and where it lives. A customer list, an order history, maybe appointment notes. That's plenty, and it's all worth protecting well.
The rules scale down beautifully. Collect less than you think you need. Delete what you don't use. Know who can see what. Write it down somewhere you'll actually find it.
And get these habits right before you bolt on AI tools. A tidy little dataset plus a simple AI helper beats a sprawling mess with an expensive model on top.
Don't automate chaos. Organize first, then automate.
