Social Scoring and the Line You Don't Cross
Of everything the EU AI Act bans, social scoring is the one worth sitting with.
Social scoring means using AI to rate or classify people based on their behavior, personal traits, or social characteristics, and then treating them worse because of the score. Not their creditworthiness. Their character, their habits, their lives, reduced to a number that follows them around.
The ban exists because some lines shouldn't be optimized. A society where your everyday behavior feeds a permanent score isn't safer or fairer. It's just more controlled, and the control never lands evenly.
Technology can do many things. "Can we build it" was never the right question. The right question is who gets hurt when we do.
