Reasonable Care: The Two Words Behind Every AI Rule
Read enough AI laws, guidance, and framework documents and a pattern emerges. Beneath the different vocabularies, they're nearly all asking one question: did you act with reasonable care?
Reasonable care is an old idea wearing new clothes. It means doing what a careful, competent organization would do in your position. For AI, that's becoming concrete: inventory your tools. Assess the risks before deploying. Test for bias and errors. Tell people when AI affects them. Watch the system after launch. Fix problems and write down what you did.
You don't need a law degree to apply it. Ask: "If this went wrong and I had to explain ourselves, would our process look careful?" If the honest answer is no, you know what to fix. Reasonable care is the thread connecting every AI rule you'll ever read.
