Pick Boring Tools That Do One Thing Well
The AI market right now feels like a fireworks show — every week a new tool promising to do everything. For a small business, that's a trap.
You don't need the platform that writes, designs, codes, and makes coffee. You need the boring tool that does one job reliably. The transcription tool that never misses a word. The scheduler that just works. Boring is a compliment.
Here's my test: can you explain what the tool does in one sentence? "It turns my meeting recordings into notes." Good. "It's an AI-powered productivity ecosystem leveraging..." — walk away. If the vendor can't describe it simply, your team will never use it simply.
There's a second reason to pick boring. Every tool you adopt is something you have to train people on, pay for, secure, and eventually replace. A tool that does one thing well has one job to learn and one bill to pay. A tool that does twelve things has twelve ways to confuse everyone.
Start boring. You can always get fancier later — most businesses never need to.
