Myth: We Got Consent, So We're Done
Here's a myth with a comforting ring to it: once someone consents, we're done.
Consent is the beginning of the responsibility, not the end of it.
First, consent was given for a specific purpose. Using that data for a brand-new AI project is a new purpose, and it needs a new conversation. The old yes doesn't stretch to cover the new thing.
Second, everything else still applies. You still have to keep the data secure. You still have to minimize what you hold. You still have to delete it on schedule. Consent never meant "now we can relax."
Think of it like borrowing a neighbor's ladder to clean your gutters. That yes doesn't cover lending it to someone else, and it definitely doesn't cover keeping it forever.
Consent opens the door. It doesn't remove the walls.
