Myth: Deleting the App Deletes Your Data
Here's a myth most of us have believed: deleting the app deletes your data.
It doesn't. Uninstalling removes the app from your phone. Your account, your history, your uploads, your preferences — those usually stay right where they were, on the company's servers. Backups keep copies. Analytics systems keep their own. Logs remember you were there.
If you actually want out, use the real exit: the account deletion or "delete my data" option, usually buried in settings or on the website. Then check the company's retention policy to see how long deletion really takes.
For teams building AI products, the lesson runs the other way. Make your delete button real, and make it easy to find. Your users believe it works. Honor that.
