Myth: Audits Are Only for Big Companies
Here's a myth I hear from small business owners all the time: "Audits are for big companies. We're too small for anyone to check our AI."
Let me tell you when small companies get audited. A big client is about to sign with you and asks, "How does your AI make these decisions?" A customer complains that your system treated them unfairly. Your business insurer asks what controls you have. None of these people care how many employees you have.
The good news? Small teams have an advantage here. You probably run one or two AI tools, not two hundred. Documenting what they do, what data they touch, and who approved them might take you an afternoon — not a quarter.
An auditor isn't looking for a compliance department. They're looking for evidence that someone thought this through. A one-page document beats a shrug every single time.
So no, audits aren't only for big companies. They're for anyone whose AI makes decisions that affect real people. That includes you. The bar isn't "enterprise-grade." The bar is "written down."
