High-Risk Means Human Oversight, Not Human Rubber-Stamping

The EU AI Act requires human oversight of high-risk AI. Let's be clear about what that doesn't mean.

It doesn't mean a person who clicks approve on whatever the system suggests. That's not oversight. That's a rubber stamp with a pulse.

Real oversight means the human understands what the system does and where it fails. It means watching for automation bias, that quiet drift where people stop questioning the machine because it's usually right. And it means having both the authority and the ability to intervene, override, or shut the system down.

If your human in the loop can't say no, you don't have a human in the loop. You have theater. The Act asks for the real thing, and so should you.
