Don't Automate Chaos: A Compliance Translation

I have a rule I say constantly: don't automate chaos.

Here's the EU AI Act saying the same thing in legalese. High-risk AI systems must be trained on data that is relevant, representative, and as free of errors as possible. Datasets must be examined for bias. Gaps must be addressed before the system goes live.

Translation: if your data is a mess, your AI will be a mess, just faster and more confident about it. The law doesn't let you launder bad data through a model and call the output objective.

Clean up the inputs before you scale the outputs. Validate the data before you automate the decision. That's not just compliance. That's the whole game, in every system I've ever fixed.
